Kavita Krishnan c/o 2018, Projects Coordinator
Hi I'm Kavita! I'm originally from the Bay Area and am a Bio Sci major minoring in medical anthropology. I joined GMT as a sophomore, when I switched into being a pre-med major, because it seemed like an excellent way to get involved and meet other pre-meds. It stood out to me because of it's focus on combining medicine and service. My favorite GMT memory definitely was my trip to Nicaragua. Not only did I meet amazing fellow UCI members, the patients I interacted with and interest in the under-served will stay with me forever. It was a pivotal point in my career as a pre-med and my focus in becoming a doctor is to make healthcare more accessible. My position encompasses this through the focus on service projects, whether it be with helping kids from Santa Ana with their interests in learning, or helping thee homeless population in our county. I hope GMT continues to inspire, connect, and serve the UCI community and beyond!
Maria Nguyen c/o 2019, Workshop Coordinator
Hi there! My name is Maria, and I LOVE GMT! As a freshman coming into UCI, I was immediately attracted to GMT for its relentless endeavors toward providing free healthcare to countries around the globe, while also catering to the needs of our local community. Now as Workshop Coordinator, I get the incredible opportunity to create and lead interactive workshops during GMT’s weekly general meetings. The objective of these workshops range from discussing the current state of our healthcare system and its local effects, to educating our members on the pharmacological and physiological rationale behind the diagnoses of the most common symptoms we see abroad. With each workshop, I strive to help our general members prepare for their medical mission trips with GMT, and furthermore gain a foundation for their future healthcare careers. I hope to see you at our next workshop! (:
Phuc Nguyen c/o 2019, Publicity Coordinator
Hey! I'm Phuc, a Biological Sciences major, and what sold GMT to my Freshmen self was the family atmosphere, diversity and passion of its members, and the board members who became my role models. One thing that I hold dear to my heart, that is also one of my favorite memories with GMT, is being paired up as a mentee to my mentor. That moment lead to personal growth, an everlasting relationship, and my very own mentees. As the Publicity Coordinator, I have the opportunity to work behind the scenes to uphold the family atmosphere that I value so much. Recording and advertising our meetings and socials, creating videos of our medical mission trips, and running the Mentor-Mentee program are just some of my efforts to make strong connections between our members. I hope I am able to show you just how great GMT is :')
Maddie Bacchus c/o 2019, Social Coordinator
I joined GMT because I’m passionate about global medicine and healthcare. I want to join the Peace Corps after I graduate, and GMT has given me the opportunity to prepare for the work I’ll be doing in other third world countries post-grad. I love the compassion and generosity that all GMT members have. My favorite GMT memory is the social after the very first GMT meeting I attended! I was considering joining a few different clubs and had attended meetings for similar formatted clubs; but after attending the UTC social and spending time hanging out and talking to board and general members, I fell in love with the family we’ve made out of this club. I love working as a Social Chair for GMT because my position means that I get the opportunity to interact with all the members of GMT & really get to know them. This club is filled with so many wonderfully diverse people who all make GMT great!
Tara Freeman c/o 2019, Social Coordinator
Hi! my name is Tara Freeman and I am a 3rd year Anthropology Major. Global Medical Training has made a huge impact on my life and has helped me get closer to my goal of becoming a Physician's Assistant. Through this club I have learned so much about medicine and leadership. Most importantly, I have gained life-long friends. I am so happy to serve GMT in my role as social chair!
Jose Cuevas c/o 2018, Fundraising Coordinator
My name is Jose Cuevas and I am a 4th year Bio Sci mayor. I joined GMT when I transferred to UCI in Fall of 2016 because I wanted to be a part of something bigger and educate myself about medicine and how I could help locally and globally. I have had so many amazing memories with GMT but my favorite memory by far is my first week of fundraising the quarter I first joined, not only did I have tons of fun and got the chance to come out of my shell but that’s when I met the people I now call my best friends and family. This is why I am passionate about fundraising because not only does it help us raise money that goes towards our club and trips but it’s a chance for everyone to get to be there fun and quirky selves and create long lasting friendships. As a fundraising chair I am involved in taking care of the finances and fundraising and I hope to be able to find new ways to help our club grow and allow the members to create great memories while doing it as well. GMT has made a great impact in my life and I hope it can do the same for all our members.
Claire Zeng c/o 2019, Fundraising Coordinator
Bonjour! My name is Claire, and I am a third year Biological Sciences major here at UCI. I joined GMT the fall of my freshman year, after I heard about the club at the Anteater Involvement Fair. I joined the club because I wanted to learn more about the physician career, and whether the career would be a great fit for me. I admit that what drew me into the club was the trip, but I stayed because of all the amazing people I met. I found myself enjoying learning about the physician profession with friendly, warm people with the same goal as me. My favorite memory of GMT was the meeting in which the club displayed a video of a clinic trip to Nicaragua. I remember looking around the room and seeing everyone awestruck, inspired, and eager to go on the trip to help people, and that positive and encouraging ambiance that filled the room was what made me want to be apart of this community and become a doctor who could make a difference in people’s lives. Even after being apart of this club for three years, I have not seen that atmosphere disappear from the club. Because of all the incredible things that GMT did for me, I wanted, in a way, to give back to GMT by being involved in the workings of the club to help recreate and maintain the incredible things that GMT did for me. As one of the fundraising co-chairs, I am able to do so: fundraising does not simply involve raising funds for the club through food, but it involves a group effort of many club members, and all the while we are achieving the same goal, I have the honor of getting to know new members as well as catching up with old members. ^_^
