OFFICERS 2021-2022
President: Sadat Zaman
Hello everyone, welcome to GMT! My name is Sadat Zaman and I am so happy to be your president this year :) I am excited to make this year the best and most fun year in GMT history with the help of my wonderful board! Some background about me, I am from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, CA and I am Bengali. I am currently a senior and I joined GMT the fall quarter of my freshman year (I know I'm old). To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what I want to do yet with my life but my goal is to be happy and just enjoy the process! Joining GMT was the best decision that I made in college. Everyone in the club is super chill, I’ve made most of my best friends here, and I have truly learned a lot about healthcare and event planning! I came into GMT scared/alone but everyone in the club made me feel like I belonged in this university as a first-gen student. It makes me emotional to think that I have less than a year left here which inspires me to create the best of memories with all of you reading this. Some other things about me is that I love to play/watch/talk about basketball (Lakers 4 life), watch marvel stuff, and I love the outdoors. I’m really gonna miss GMT, I love this org <3. I hope it makes as big an impact on you as it did on myself.
Vice President: Brian Monroy
Hey everyone! My name is Brian and I am thrilled to be your Vice President this school year! I am a fifth-year chemistry major excited to be on the pre-health track and working as part of GMT to bring fascinating events that immerse members in healthcare experiences and aid in creating long-lasting bonds with the communities that we work with. I was born in Los Angeles and moved to Pomona in 2012. I began my journey at UCI in 2017 and joined GMT at the start of my third year (an amazing decision). The friendliness, community, and fun I experienced within GMT made me feel right at home and excited me to stay and continue to be a part of this amazing club. I made some great friends and amazing memories throughout my GMT experience (hoping to make more this year) and I hope that you all also get to create your own amazing experiences within GMT and have plenty of fun while doing so. Welcome to GMT and I can’t wait to meet all of y’all!
Workshop Coordinator: Claire Stewart
Hey everyone!! My name is Claire Stewart, and I’m a 3rd year Human Biology major and Health Informatics minor. I’m so excited to be one of your workshop coordinators this year with Christina! We’ve worked so hard behind the scenes to bring you information about important health topics, and hope you enjoy the presentations. I initially joined GMT my freshman year during the Anteater Involvement Fair looking for people who were passionate about healthcare. I was immediately welcomed by all the members, and truly found a family full of amazing like-minded people. My hope is to become an OBGYN someday and advocate for women’s health, and GMT has been the perfect start to this journey:) In my free time, I love going on spontaneous adventures around UCI, going to Disneyland, hiking, or trying to cook/bake with friends. I’m eager to see all of the new faces in meetings and get to know more about you all!
Workshop Coordinator: Christina Marquez
Hello everyone!! My name is Christina Marquez and I am one of your workshop coordinators for this upcoming academic year. During the GMT meetings, I will be conducting presentations on topics focused in medicine and healthcare. I am a 3rd year Chemistry Major, and I am from Palm Springs, California, which is known for its 120F degree heat. I love going to the gym and travelling. I have been to Italy, Spain, France, and Switzerland. Once I graduate from UCI, I plan on applying to medical school to ultimately become a general practitioner. I joined GMT because it has everything I was looking for in a club: community service opportunities, gaining clinical experience, networking, and a chance to make friends. The friends I made in this organization have been the highlight of my college experience. I look forward to meeting you all in person, and I hope you end up loving GMT just like I have!
Advocacy Coordinator: Trish Nguyen
Hello guys!! My name is Trish Nguyen and I will be one of your Co-advocacy coordinators alongside Salma! We hope to make this year better with newer advocacy events and also continue the traditional ones! I’m an upcoming 3rd year majoring in psychology and am an aspiring physician assistant. Because of my goals in wanting to become a PA, I decided to join GMT last Fall and I’m so glad I did since I met so many people with different backgrounds yet with similar goals and mindset as me. Being an intern for GMT made me realize how committed this club is to helping the community around us while also advocating for the members’ success in achieving their goals. Although everything was online when I first joined, I was still able to meet so many great people and formed such a supportive family that could always push me to do better. This encouraged me to become an advocacy coordinator and inspired me to create and promote the ideas and philosophy of GMT. Now moving on to the fun part, some things I enjoy A LOT is binge watching shows and movies whether it be anime, kdramas, or American movies/shows. I also really wish to travel around the world such as Japan, Switzerland, Korea and so much more but I have no money right now ahaha. Anyways, I hope that I get to see new faces at our events this upcoming year and I’m excited for the future of GMT!!!
Advocacy Coordinator: Salma Metwaly
Hello everyone!! My name is Salma Metwaly and I am a 3rd year biological sciences major. I am so excited to be one of your advocacy coordinators this year! Me and Trish are gonna make sure we host lots of events to give you multiple opportunities to give back to your wonderful community! When I first joined GMT, I was a little unsure about how it was going to be like, but after realizing how friendly everyone is and how informative the club is, I loved it! In fact, I loved it so much I became a board member just so I can show others how amazing GMT is. Now, to give y’all a little background of who I am: I grew up in different parts of SoCal my whole life, but am now living in Irvine so I can attend the best university ever to exist (UCI!!!). Aside from that, some of my hobbies include playing soccer, gardening, and hiking! I really hope to see you guys at our events and I can't wait to meet you all!
Projects Coordinator: Nayeli Morales
Hello there, and welcome! If you are reading this, it is because you have taken an interest in GMT and I hope that you enjoy it and stick around with us. Let me introduce myself: my name is Nayeli Morales and I will be the GMT projects coordinator for this year. Some facts about me are that I’m an upcoming 3rd year public health major and a first generation latina student. I was born in El Monte Ca., but I was raised in Guanajuato, Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish and would like to learn another language. I don't really have a hobby but I love listening to music in spanish, weight lifting, I like doing press on nails and I recently got into k-dramas. Since the first GMT event, I felt included and I wanted to continue to be part of it. I just liked the way board members interacted with everyone and the work they were doing in the community and in Latin American countries so I did the mentor/mentee application (I recommend) and later did the internship application. Anyway, I hope that GMT can be a comfortable place for you to learn and have fun. See you at RAMP and the food distribution events that we’ll be having throughout the year.
Financial Coordinator: Jazmine Gonzalez
Hello, hello!! My name is Jazmine Gonzalez and I am a third year public health sciences major and drama minor. I am super duper excited to be the other ½ of your financial coordinator team alongside my AMAZING co-coordinator Khanh An Vu. As financial coordinators, we will be organizing fundraisers on ring road so that we may get that cash money to fund the events organized by your amazing advocacy, projects, and social coordinators for our local communities! A little bit about myself: I am from Hawthorne, CA and I absolutely love watching Grey’s Anatomy and musicals! My favorite musical at the moment is In the Heights :). I also love going to different amusement parks but my overall favorite park is Disneyland! My dream is to become a pediatrician although I am open to pursuing other career paths so long as I am still able to work with kiddos! I joined GMT during my first year at UCI after speaking with the board members at the time during the Anteater Involvement Fair! I was instantly drawn in by GMT’s welcoming and energetic environment, and joining this org has honestly been the highlight of my college experience! I can not wait to meet and create memories with y’all as we return to campus, and I genuinely hope GMT becomes a fun and safe space for you as it has for me and so many more in the past! See ya real soon! (If you got that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse reference at the end, you're my favorite person).
Financial Coordinator: Khanh An Vu
Hey Guys!! I am Khanh An Vu, an upcoming 3rd year biological major. I will be ½ of your financial coordinator, working alongside the BEST co-Jazmine Gonzales. Be sure to come by to check out our booth as we fundraise for GMT to put together events with social coordinators for all our members. I love to drive, travel, explore, and always down for good music and good company, so don’t hesitate to reach out. My favorite things to do outside of school would be to go to San Diego, visit the beach, hike, play basketball, or play volleyball. I initially joined GMT by reaching out to my now mentor, Sarah who invited me to my first meeting and social. Despite not knowing anyone at the first meeting, they welcomed me with open arms and made my first year quite memorable. Winter retreat was my favorite highlight of GMT where I got to meet alumni as well as connected with more GMT members. GMT provided a great opportunity to learn as well as to open up to many things. I hope it will do the same for you, I would LOVE to see you there!
Social Coordinator: Jessica Tseng
Hi! My name is Jessica Tseng. I am a third year BioSci major. I will be one of GMT's social coordinators this year along with Jaclyn. I was born in Taiwan but moved to Irvine when I was young and have lived here ever since. I have an older brother who I've looked up to my whole life, even starting the flute because of him. Ever since I was young, I really enjoyed travelling and have been to many places in Asia with my family. I hope to be able to travel around Europe in the future. Although I am a BioSci major and pursue many activities relating to healthcare, I am still unsure of my plans upon graduation. I initially joined GMT not expecting much since I have never been one to dedicate a lot of time to school orgs, but as I spent more time in the club, I was very thankful to have met a lot of cool people and made some really close friends. I’m sure you will be able to do the same if you do decide to join our weekly meetings and volunteer events. As you have probably seen or read already, there are many different opportunities that this club offers, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)
Social Coordinator: Jaclyn Cisneros
Hi y’all! I’m Jaclyn Cisneros and I am so ecstatic to work alongside Jessica as a GMT social coordinator this year! We plan on hosting some awesome and memorable socials so come join us and be a part of the GMT family.<3 Something about me, is I have lived in SoCal my entire life and loved it so much I stayed and went to UCI. I enjoy travelling, painting, watching anime, playing sports with friends and family, and hiking with my cute and furry sidekick, Tiffy. I joined GMT alone as a freshman, and it was honestly the greatest decision I made in college. My favorite memory in GMT was our Panama clinic trip over spring break, assisting doctors in clinics during the day and overlooking the beautiful panama city lights at night. The best part of GMT, is the heart its members have for each other and serving underserved communities which makes an incredible impact on so many people’s lives. You’ll make awesome friends and memories here whether it be at our informative workshops, fun socials, or any of our volunteering opportunities such as food pantry, HRI needle change, and RAMP at the boys in girls club. There’s so much to do here at GMT so I hope to see you there! Toodaloo!
Publicity Coordinator: Hongmei Wu
Hello GMT fam,my name is Hongmei Wu and I’m a 3rd year biological science major and biomedical engineering minor. I was born and bred in Shanghai,China--one of the biggest cities on the east coast of China. And yes, I am an international student who just came to the U.S. 2 years ago. During my spare time, I enjoy bird watching, photography, cooking, hiking and playing the piano. Even though I am indeed an introverted and quiet girl, I would never hesitate to offer my help to everyone around me, so feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. This will be my second year at GMT and I’m now the publicity officer who creates flyers, social media posts, and T-shirt design. Being hesitant to join a medical club at first, I surprisingly became one of the few international students who still haven’t given up pursuing a career path in the healthcare field thanks to all the encouragement that I got from GMT. When GMT first caught my interest because of the informative workshops, it taught me far more than medical knowledge. I learned more about the underserved communities and the humanitarian aspect of medicine through GMT’s various volunteering programs including food pantry and HRI needle exchange program. I truly hope that you can find the support, friendship and experience you want in GMT, like so many of us did.
